About lil’ ol’ me
I am Elana, a female geek with 18 years experience in the techy world, including print and web graphics. I love fixing computers, science, NASA, JPL and reading about techy innovations. Might as well keep a blog on everything I love to think about.
I daydream of someday finding a calling where all my various abilities can fit into one unique career. I often dream of a job where:
- I’d use my Macgyver-like uncanny ability to fix nearly anything with whatever’s available on hand
- Passing in the 99 percentile on an aptitude test (when the average for females is around 40 percent, and for guys around 60 percent) is an incredibly valued strong point.
- Photography ability is very useful here.
- Photoshop and graphics ability helps a lot too
- The fact that I can troubleshoot nearly anything on a just-in-time-learning basis is valued as I make solutions happen where things seem impossible.
- Being able talk intelligently on nearly any scientific or techy subject lets me have unique, left-field perspectives on the challenges at hand.
- Being able to easily translate from geek to English means that the client gets to understand what is going on.
- I get to travel all over North America troubleshooting and solving unique problems
- I can be an assistant on some “mission impossible” team that goes out and solves problems with various technologies.
I doubt that such a job or career can actually exist. That just seems to be a dream. That makes me a little sad, sometimes.
So instead, I concentrate on what I am trained on – doing graphics as well as fixing PCs.
One of these days I am going to actually finish my pixelthinker.com web site – stay tuned.
